Christopher Ward’s latest watch release is giving major Tron vibes

Christopher Ward's C1 Bel Canto Lumière takes the brand’s award-winning chiming watch and gives it a futuristic, glow-in-the-dark makeover

I’ve always loved the C1 Bel Canto, it’s one of my favourite Christopher Ward watches, but I’ve also found it a little too old-fashioned for my taste. Beautiful, yes, but more classical concert than electro remix. So when I saw the new C1 Bel Canto Lumière, with its glowing dials and futuristic energy, I knew it was right up my street.

Christopher Ward has taken its GPHG-winning chiming watch and reimagined it as something straight out of Tron. The familiar FS01 chiming module still strikes that lovely D note on the hour, but everything else feels designed for the future.

“With the first Bel Canto we created something contemporary, while the Classic looked to the past,” says Design Director Adrian Buchmann. “With the Lumière, we wanted something more futuristic – exploring light while staying true to Bel Canto’s haute horlogerie character.”

The 41mm Grade 5 titanium case houses a smoked sapphire time-telling dial framed by a blue Globolight ring, with brushed hands tipped in luminous blue.

After dark, the whole display erupts into a vibrant show of green and blue light – the kind of glow that would make any sci-fi prop designer jealous.

Underneath, a new platine coated in Super-LumiNova radiates in a sunburst pattern, glowing blue on the lower half and green above. Even the on/off indicator changes colour, glowing green at night.

And if that’s not enough glow, the new Super-LumiNova-infused white strap adds an all-over wrist light show. I honestly love it.

Prices start at $4910 / £3495 on the rubber strap, $5205 / £3745 on the three-link bracelet, and $5290 / £3815 on the five-link Consort bracelet.

You can pre-order the watch now on Christopher Ward’s website, with deliveries starting at the end of December.
