Apple to ditch YouTube app in iOS 6

Fancy catching up on some on-the-go cat videos in future? Be prepared to fire up Safari instead as Apple's YouTube license expires without renewal

Fans of cat videos and internet celebrities alike might be disappointed to hear that the default iOS YouTube app that’s been loaded up onto every iPhone iteration since its original release will be removed from iOS 6.

The Cupertino tech giant confirmed with The Verge that its license for the YouTube app in iOS has ended, meaning that iOS 6 iPhone users will have to fire up Safari for any YouTube shenanigans until Google’s YouTube app is released on the App Store.

Now if you’ll excuse us we’re off to fire up a few of our favourite cat videos in homage to one of iOS’ staple apps. For science, of course.
