When it comes to choosing a camera we need ours to be tougher than Chuck Norris wearing a bombproof poncho made of nails. All too often we spill a pint on our Pentax or just get too careless with our Canon.

Here to save the day with its sturdy credentials is the new Ricoh G600. This 10MP compact might look pretty industrial but its got the brawn to back it up. It’s water resistant down to a metre, can withstand falls from 1.5m and also turns its wide-angle, zoom lens nose up at dust or sand.

Round the back there’s a 2.7in LCD with ambient light sensor to adjust the brightness according to your shooting conditions.

It’ll go nicely with your Samsung Solid or JCB Toughphone
