Sony Ericsson’s bid to cause maximum confusion in its product range was boosted this morning when it announced the new T700 – on the same day Sony announced a digicam with the same name.
Apart from sharing a dedication to impossibly thin waistlines, the two have little else in common. The 10mm-thick T700 is the spiritual successor to the T610, whose black and silver livery caught our magpie eye back in 2003.
This means it’s a solid, mid-range handset that will sell by the bucket-load to those who aren’t fussed by its Walkman and Cybershot offerings. Top of the spec list is a 3.2MP camera, which lacks autofocus and Xenon flash, closely followed by the 2in screen, stereo Bluetooth and 512MB card in the box.
The lack of toys like a Wi-Fi antenna or HSDPA, though, mean this is a handset that’s destined for an easy life of phone calls and casual photo snapping.
