Lovefilm readying HD downloads?

US movie lovers can already stream flicks straight to their TV via set top boxes, courtesy of Netflix and Blockbuster. You can even get some HD action with Netflix, meaning the days of going down to your local video emporium are well and truly numbered.

And now Lovefilm.com looks like it could be bringing a similar offering to the UK, inviting us Stuffers to ‘an evening of special announcements’ next week. Sure, we’ll have to sit through Tom Cruise vehicle Valkyrie first, but it’s a pain we’re willing to take to hear sweet news about streaming boxes and HD downloads.

The latter may be more likely, unless Lovefilm has teamed up with a provider to offer a box that’ll bring streaming video straight to your TV. Or they’ve plumped for using the New Xbox Experience, like Netflix does across the pond.

Either way, keep your eyes right here for news of what’s kicking off on 22 January.
