Whatever happened to the humble house phone? Mobile phones came along and stole the show with their enticing outer shells, free after 6pm tariffs, free minutes and text messages, leaving its poor, housebound cousin in the doldrums.

??But design stalwart Alessi is determined to put the house phone back into the must-have category. Developed by the Alessi/Telecom Italia partnership and exclusively designed by Stefano Giovannoni, the AlessiPhone puts the ooh back into communication.??

As well as its avant-garde polycarbonate design and cordless stylings, the AlessiPhone comes with a selection of pre-loaded background graphic displays, to be viewed on its 65,000 colour OLED display (a first for the cordless phone market), a bunch of polyphonic ringtones and a high quality hands-free function.

??There’s even a multilingual menu for those of an international bent. ?It launches in the coming month and will be available at the 22 Brook Street and Westfield London showrooms and other concessions/independents throughout the country.
