Sony Ericsson Xperia range gets Gingerbread 2.3.4 update

Today marks a glorious day for all Sony Ericsson Xperia handsets and their owners. The mobile phone giant has announced that when the weather takes a cold turn and October rolls around, the entire 2011 Xperia range will be treated to a Gingerbread 2.3.4 flavoured upgrade. That means handsets such as the Arc, Play and Neo will soon be loaded with a wealth of new features to sink your teeth into.
So what does this mean for the user? Google Talk with Video Chat, Facebook inside Xperia functionality – to make Facebook even more integral to your daily phone activity – and the world's first 3D sweep panorama mode powered by Sony. Swipe text input a la Swype has also been thrown in, as has screen capture that'll enable you to share a screen grab from anywhere within the phone. Connectivity with USB peripherals is also on the cards via Sony Ericsson's LiveDock multimedia station, which effectively turns your smartphone into a mini computer.
You'll be able to go nuts once the upgrade lands in October, but untill then, you'll just have to exercise the utmost patience.

I have an X8 that I bought in May. Will the update be available on it?
