EE's UK 4G network – need to know
The dust has barely settled on EE's UK 4G event – but we're already drooling at the possibility of super-fast download speeds while we're prowling the streets. Here's all you need to know about the arrival of 4G to UK shores.
UK 4G – how fast is it?
Web addicts will be glad to hear that the new 4G network will be up to five times faster than 3G. That means fast HD movie downloads and higher quality video calls, as well as a zippier browsing experience in general. Death to the accursed buffer wheel? We certainly hope so.
UK 4G – release date and coverage
Technically speaking, EE's 4G network will be switched on in London, Bristol, Cardiff and Birmingham from today so that engineers can begin to test the network and iron out any niggles.
As for the rest of us, 16 UK cities in total will be getting 4G coverage by Christmas, with 70 per cent of the population set to guzzle up 4G speeds by the end of 2013. By the end of 2014, 98 per cent 4G coverage should ensure all but the remotest of cave dwellers will be surfing the interwebs in style.
UK 4G – compatible phones at launch
EE's UK 4G network will launch on five devices – the Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE, the Nokia Lumia 920 and 820, the HTC One XL and the Huawei Ascend P1. EE also all-but-confirmed that the iPhone 5 (set to launch on September 12th) will arrive packing 4G tech.
Huawei's E589 Mobile Wi-Fi device will let you hook up to five devices to EE's 4G network, while its E392 broadband stick will satisfy your laptop's need for speed.
UK 4G – existing Orange and T-Mobile customers
If you're already with Orange or T-Mobile then you'll be allowed to stay with your current plan, although if you want those sexy 4G speeds then you're going to have to upgrade to the EE network. EE tells Stuff that the process should be painless and that price plans should be released over the next few weeks, so stay tuned.

wow finally uk is in the 21st century. just shame japan had this tech years ago.
anyway simple saying if you want to see whats new here in 10 years time look at japan now.
LTE phones are a bit sparse. but i am really happy for EE, and wish them good luck. as an orange customer i am excited. for the future of mobile technology.
