Movie streaming will overtake physical discs this year

The fall of physical media could be upon us this year after researcher IHS Screen Digest has reported that legal online movie streaming in the US will hit the 3.4 billion mark this year, up from 1.4 billion in 2011, Bloomberg reports.

Physical DVD and Blu-ray viewings are forecasted to drop from 2.6 billion to 2.4 billion, and with services like Netflix recently joining the likes of Lovefilm in the UK, we see no slowing down in the future of media streaming.

Now then, who'd like to buy a 5,000 strong DVD/Blu-ray collection? We'll even through in a VHS player at no extra cost. No? Fine. Check out our Netflix vs Lovefilm review instead.
