Wii U won't be unleashed till after April 1 2012

Ninty's USA president Reffie Fils-Aime has gone on the record as stating that the Wii U won't be launching till after April 1 of next year. He went on to state that the next-gen console will be standing shoulder to shoulder on shelves with its waggle-stick toting older sibling, the Wii, for a little while after launch at least.
While this may seem a long way off for gamers to wait, an onslaught of handhelds like the 3DS and Playstation Vita, coupled with a slew of upcoming titles like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim should ensure that the wait is as painless as possible. With the Xbox 720 (a title in progress) set to debut at next year's E3, the console wars are showing no signs of cooling off whatsoever.

On the basis that the iPad is pointless, then can someone tell me what is the point of this Wii U is?
At least the iPad looks alright & actually has plenty of games ready to play today.

Well for starters the Wii U is a console, with enough power to trump the iPad in every single category when it comes to gaming.
You can't really compare a home console to an iPad, they're two totally different bits of tech. The screen on the Wii U is a supplement to games being played and when someone else wants to use the tv you can carry on gaming right on the controller screen from the couch/bed/toilet etc as the games is streamed to it from the console itself.
