Sony buys Gaikai - cloud gaming coming to PlayStation 4?

Gaikai, the cloud-based gaming service which kicked off its services in January, has been snapped up by Sony for a cool US$380 million.

We can't imagine that Sony would drain its coffers of such a sum lightly, so it’s clear that the father of the PlayStation has got some cloud-gaming plans up its sleeve.

This isn't the first time that the PlayStation 4 has been in the cloud gaming spotlight, with a Sony executive previously confirming that the company was considering cloud-based options for its next-gen console last month.

Time will tell just how big a role cloud gaming will have in the PlayStation 4 (or Xbox 720 for that matter) but it certainly looks like Sony's latest purchase could have them in the driving seat for a decent start.
