Oculus Rift Virtual Reality headset hits Kickstarter

We can't wait to plug into the pixellated world of Minecraft, Matrix style. The future is nearly here, and it begins on Kickstarter...

If this is the first you’ve heard of the Oculus Rift Virtual Reality headset then brace yourselves, for your desire-o-meter is about to hit full capacity.

Designed by founder Palmer Lucky, this VR headset has got the support of some of gaming’s biggest giants including Valve’s Gabe Newell and Epic Games’ Cliffy B by promising to immerse gamers directly into their favourite games by serving up a massive 110 degrees diagonal field of view with ultra low latency head tracking.

Currently available for developers to pre-order for US$300 on Kickstarter (where it’s already raised its US$250,000 goal) and set to ship with a playable VR version of Doom 3, we’re counting down the days till its public release.

Slaying dragons and running away from monsters in our very own living rooms? We can’t wait.
