Samsung Hope Relay app turns your wheezy jog into charity cash
Sensing that some of us aren’t quite Olympic fit yet, Samsung has decided to give us a hand lacing up our running shoes by creating an app that donates £1 for every mile you walk, run or cycle in the lead up to the London 2012 Olympics.
Load up your Android phone with the Samsung Hope Relay app (an iOS version is coming soon) and it’ll log your distance via GPS as you run, walk, cycle, rollerskate… anything, in fact, that doesn’t go over 18mph.
Samsung’s then promising to pass on your mileage – in the form of cash – to a number of charities so you can be fighting fit for a good cause. The free app launches in the UK immediately, before rolling out to France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Hungary, Poland, Siberia, Russia, Brazil, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Croatia, China, Hong Kong and Vietnam.
With superfit cycling machine Victoria Pendleton, healthy school dinners ambassador Jamie Oliver and footballer-turned-style-guru David Beckham leading the charge, we’re finding it hard to think of reasons not to put one foot in front of the other in the name of a good cause, especially when it won’t cost us a penny.
