Facebook has brought free voice calls to the iOS version of its Facebook Messenger app.

The service, currently limited to US users, allows you to call anyone else who has the Facebook Messenger app installed on their phone, provided you both have a Wi-Fi or data connection (a bit like, say, the existing Viber app). Unlike Skype, you can’t call a mobile or landline number.

Facebook says it’s working on bringing free voice calls to the Android and BlackBerry editions of the Messenger app, and is also planning to roll the service out in other countries. So stay tuned for an announcement about a UK launch.

The free voice calls are the second new feature Facebook has announced this week – the other being Graph Search, which you can read all about here.
