UPDATE! iPhone 5 release date and pricing info

12 Sep 2012

Apple iPhone 5

The iPhone 5 release date has been revealed as September 21st for the US, UK, Canada, France, Germany, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Pre-orders will kick off on September 14th – that's just two days time kids – and the iPhone 5 will be available to buy from 8am on September 28th.

Overall 100 countries will get the new iPhone and over 240 carriers will stock it.

In the UK, EE will have the 4G exclusive on the iPhone 5 "in the coming weeks" (which should ruffle a few feathers) and we should be browsing the internet at five times faster than 3G by Christmas. EE hasn't announced pricing and availability for the 3G or 4G iPhone 5 contracts yet but we'll keep you posted over the next few days.

Price-wise, for the US the iPhone 5 will be available on contract for US$200 for 16GB models, US$300 for 32GB and US$400 for 64GB models. UK pricing will start at £530.

Apple has also confirmed that in the UK, the iPhone 5 will be available with Everything Everywhere, Orange, O2, T-Mobile, Vodafone and 3.

That price differential is just nuts ... how on earth is that justified ... it doesn't cost £300 a pop in shipping for sure!

That £539 UK pricing is surely Contract Free/SIM Free/Unlocked?

If so then its not as quite as bad as it initially sounds. Although I dread to think what a 64GB one will cost.

The US pricing is locking into a minimum of a 2 year contract with one of the US providers.

that is right quaidr, the contract prices for the uk are still to be announced. The initial pricing in america may look unfair until you realise you also have to be locked into a 2 year contract with the cheapest of these being the equivalent of £49 a month. Makes me glad to be in the UK.

Also in response to your question the 64GB iPhone unlocked from apple will set you back £699! Also it is £599 for the 32GB.
