Sony Bravia VPL-VW200 SXRD goes short

It was announced back in September but we’ve now finally got the UK deets on Sony’s new Bravia home cinema creator. Dubbed the VPL-VW200 SXRD, it boasts a fine pedigree, taking the best bits of the VPL-VW60, VPL-VW100 and QUALIA 004 award winners and leaving the inferior components spinning in a circuit board mess on the floor. The SXRD bit stands for ‘Silicon X-tal Reflective Display’, which serves up a 1080p picture in 24p True Cinema style, all beamed through a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens.A 35,000:1 contrast ratio, 800 lumen brightness and sterling 2.5ms response time and 100Hz frame rate should see off most of the competition. But it’s Sony’s short throw know how that’s got our movie juices flowing – able to cast an 80in screen from a mere 2.5m. Suddenly turning the box room into a private cinema doesn’t seem such a daft idea after all.EssentialsSony Bravia VPL-VW200 SXRDPrice: £8500On sale: NovemberContact: SonyRelated stories:Game & watch with Panny’s PT-AX200U HD projectorSony DAV-X10 shrinks home cinemaGadget of the Day – BenQ W Series projectors
