Skype and SlingPlayer apps coming to iPhone “soon”

iPhone users look set to get a double dose of premium quality apps in the coming weeks – both Skype and SlingPlayer look set to hit Apple's baby

iPhone users look set to get a double dose of premium quality apps in the coming weeks – both Skype and SlingPlayer look set to hit Apple’s baby.

The SlingPlayer app is definitely a goer, as Sling Media’s website says so: “We’ve been working hard to bring the SlingPlayer Mobile experience to the iPhone and iPod Touch, and we are almost there! By Q1 this year we will submit our first release of our application to the iPhone App Store.”

Exciting stuff, particularly as “Q1” will be over in a matter of days. SlingPlayer Mobile allows anyone with a Slingbox hooked up to their TV to watch live television wherever they are (if they’ve got a quick enough web connection).

The Skype app is a bit more of a rumour, although it comes from respected tech blogger Om Malik, who says that a “very reliable” source has informed him that Skype will drop its voice and IM chat app for iPhone very soon, perhaps as early as next week.
