Samsung brings Apple AirDrop to your Galaxy with this free update

Samsung’s finally making Galaxy-to-iPhone file sharing far less of a faff – though only the Galaxy S26 range gets it first

Swapping files between the best Android phones and iPhones has long been a major annoyance. But we’re moving in the right direction, thanks to a Samsung Galaxy free update that adds Quick Share compatibility with Apple’s AirDrop on the Galaxy S26 series.

The rollout starts today, beginning in Korea before expanding to more regions, including Europe, Hong Kong, Japan, Latin America, North America, Southeast Asia, and Taiwan. Samsung says availability will vary by market, so don’t be surprised if it takes a little while to land on your handset.

For now, this is only coming to the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra. Samsung says support for additional Galaxy devices will be announced later, which strongly suggests this won’t stay exclusive to its newest flagships forever.

Once enabled, the feature lets Galaxy S26 owners send files wirelessly to Apple devices – including iPhones, iPads, and Macs – through Quick Share, rather than relying on the usual mix of cloud links, messaging apps, or awkward email workarounds. It’s a seemingly simple feature that’s very much overdue, especially if you regularly bounce between Samsung gear and Apple devices.

It’s not switched on by default, mind. Galaxy S26 users will need to head into Settings, then Connected devices, then Quick Share, where there’s a new option to share with Apple devices. Both the Galaxy phone and the Apple device also need to be set to “Everyone” visibility for transfers to work.

Google already brought similar cross-platform file sharing to its Pixel phones, and we hope more manufacturers jump on board to open up file sharing between Android handsets and iPhones.
