iPhone 7 Plus likely to have dual cameras

The Apple rumour mill just keeps on spinnin'

Remember those iPhone 7 and 7 Plus leaks from a while back? Don’t worry if you don’t – a lot’s happened since then. Either way though, there’s a chance they were on the money.

Japanese site Mac Otakara’s sources have suggested that two leaked photos – one of an iPhone 7 Plus, and the other of an iPhone 7 render – are accurate.

If true, this means that the iPhone 7 Plus will indeed land with two rear cameras, joining the likes of the Huawei P9 and LG G5.

It’s unclear at this stage what role each camera will play. LG has opted for one regular and one wide-angle lens, while Huawei’s sprung for separate black/white and colour sensors. Other rumour suggest that Apple’s dual-lens system could use different focal lengths to improve shots, but nothing is confirmed at this stage.

The rear of the iPhone 7 also shows of metal pogo connectors, which are reportedly for connecting to an external keyboard for increased productivity.

The previously leaked iPhone 7 render has also been given the thumbs up, showing off a design that’s very similar to the existing iPhone 6s, although the rear camera lens appears to be larger, suggesting a bigger sensor.

In addition to the axing of the headphone port (which has been rumoured for what seems like forever), the Japanese site also reports that there’s a new unidentified sensor above the screen on both handsets.

It’s likely that this mystery sensor is a True Tone display sensor, identical to the one found on the new iPad Pro 9.7, which automatically matches the colour temperature of its surroundings for easier reading.

Despite the confidence of the site’s sources however, we’re definitely swallowing this all with a pinch of salt, and will continue to do so, until we hear everything from Tim Cook’s own mouth in September.
