Siri to power Mercedes-Benz A-class in-car entertainment

Fed up of smartphones this week? Well here's a new ents update for your Merc. Oh wait.

We’d like to formally invite Jon Briggs to join us for every car journey we make from now on. Why do we need a radio presenter and voice over man on board? For starters, he’s excellent fun and knows his gadgets but more importantly he’s the voice of Siri in the UK.

And Mercedes-Benz has just announced it’s the latest to join the voice-controlled Apple-wagon with a new Siri-powered COMAND multimedia system, rolling out first to the A-class series of its motors.

Stick your iPhone 4S into the built-in display and you’ll be able to get cracking with two apps – Digital DriveStyle and Drive Kit Plus– that let you send messages, choose iTunes tracks and check the internet via voice control. There’s also a personalised radio service, Garmin navigation software and social media integration.

The rest of you Mercedes drivers needn’t worry too much either – the update will be coming to B-, C- and E-class cars from autumn 2012. And Mercedes-Benz plan to launch more apps – like a News app coming at the end of March. Hop in then, Jon.
