Ikea’s new motion-sensing LED nightlight is cheap and convenient – we’ll take ten
The new Ikea Ankarlägg motion-sensing lightbulb is cheap as chips and very useful to have around the house.
Ikea’s spree of releasing neat, techy home gadgets has continued with the launch of Ankarlägg – a battery-powered motion-sensing nightlight that’s cheap enough to place all around the house.
The dirt-cheap €3 nightlight is now available on the continent and will hopefully follow in the United States in the UK in short order. The lightbulb shaped LED light can be easily affixed to any flat surface thanks to the double-side self adhesive pad – so no drilling or hammering – and because it runs off a trio of AAA batteries, you won’t need to place it next to a plug.
Because the light only stays on for 30-seconds at a time, the battery is expected to last for around six months. That’s based upon activating an average of ten times per day. So it’s perfect for a late night trip to the lav’ or the kitchen tap and, because it only activates at night, you won’t have to worry about constantly replacing the batteries either. It’s also got a manual on-off switch for the times when you don’t want it activated at all.
And, if you get a few of them, you’ll save loads on traditional smart light bulb/motion sensor combinations. One in the bedroom, one in the hallway and another in the bathroom so you don’t have to combat the big light blinding you at 3am. It appears to be a soothing orange hue that’s not going to disturb anyone else in the house too much either.
It also might be a nice thing to have in wardrobes and closets to give your peepers a little assist. Or at the front door, as you rummage around for your keys. In fact, you can get us a dozen and we’ll still have change from fifty nicker. We’ll let you know when it arrives in the UK and the US.
