Oops! MacBook Neo revealed as the name for Apple’s lower-cost laptop
Apple appears to have mistakenly unveiled the name of the low-cost laptop arriving tomorrow and it's the MacBook Neo

Apple’s cheaper laptop will be called the MacBook Neo, according to a regulatory filing hiding in plain sight on the company’s website.
The eagle-eyed scribes at MacRumours’ spotted the MacBook Neo name in a filing pertaining to EU compliance, alongside the other 2026 models Apple has announced and will show off on Wednesday March 4 during the in-person “special experience” event.
The reference, which has since been deleted, appears next to the model name A3404 and doesn’t offer anything in the way of images or features. However, it does appear to confirm the planned name for the device.
The MacBook Neo is expected to arrive packing an A-Series processor – namely the A18 Pro or A19 Pro that powered the previous generations’ iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro. They’re also believed to be arriving in a host of bright colours – including yellow, green, blue and pink.
The idea is to snap-up some Chromebook and Windows users with an option far more affordable than the current MacBook Air M4 model that starts at $999/£999. The name and rumoured colours certainly would certainly suggest a youthful approach, and let’s hope the price is that way minded also.
Recent speculation has suggested the company will offer the MacBook for anywhere between $599/£599 and $799/£799. My opinion is it’ll sit right in the middle at $699/£699, to match the lowest price of the MacBook Air M1, which proved popular among students for its balance of power and good value.
The document also accurately contained the names of the other MacBook models announced today, including the MacBook Air M5 (13-inch and 15-inch) and MacBook Pro M5 Pro/Max models in both 14-inch and 16-inch varieties.
The events in New York and London are at 9am Eastern / 2pm UK time. This Neo model better have some sort of Keanu Reeves tie-in or I’m going to be very upset.
