Amazon Prime Day has dropped the 13-inch MacBook Air with Apple’s latest M5 chip to a record-low $988.97 in the US – down from its usual $1099 price. Across the pond, the same 16GB RAM / 512GB SSD configuration is currently available for around £989.97 on Amazon UK, down from the regular £1099 RRP.
Given that Apple only launched the M5 MacBook Air earlier this year – and the fact that we dubbed it the best Mac laptop for most people in our review – this is one of the best MacBook deals we’ve seen for a while.
Part of that comes down to the balance it strikes. You’re getting a slim, silent laptop that’s light enough to throw in a bag and comfortably carry around, but still powerful enough to comfortably handle creative workloads, multitasking, and pretty much any everyday job you throw at it.
We praised the M5 chip’s tremendous performance, noting that everyday tasks felt instant, while creative work including Photoshop, music production, and light video editing was handled with ease. It’s also rocking some extremely fast SSD speeds, solid battery life, and the fact Apple has finally bumped the base storage up to 512GB this generation.
You still don’t get ProMotion or the brighter mini-LED display tech found on MacBook Pro models, and the fanless design means performance can throttle under sustained heavy loads. But for most people? It’s arguably the sweet spot in Apple’s laptop lineup, making this MacBook Air deal a very tempting time to strike.
