Any fears we had that Dell would put the shackles on Alienware’s uber-cool laptop urges have just been quelled with news of two new SLI gaming notebooks.

They’re not the first laptops we’ve seen that have two NVidia graphics cards – SavRow got there first [story here] – but you’d be hard pressed to find any rivals with a better combination of looks and specs.

The frankly massive 19in mALX on the left – it weighs a wrist-snapping 6.8kg – is the flagship model, with two GeForce Go 7900 GPUs, a 1680×1050 pixel screen, two 120GB hard drives and built-in Wi-Fi.

Its brother, the 17in m9700, is far from overshadowed – it offers the same double-barrelled shot of nVidia graphics and hard-drive capacity, and has excellent connectivity with DVI and VGA outputs, and a 4-in-1 card reader.

You can, of course, customise the specs to suit your needs, but even the most basic models aren’t cheap. The m9700 starts from £1500, and the mALX goes from £2700. Alienware is taking pre-orders on its site with a view to a June delivery.
