Samsung unveils Odyssey OLED G8 gaming monitor

A premium addition to the Odyssey line-up.

Samsung‘s Odyssey gaming monitors are a solid option for gamers, packing in class-leading performance. But Samsung has unveiled a new, premium addition to the Odyssey line-up at IFA 2022.

The Odyssey OLED G8 is Samsung’s first OLED gaming monitor. With the benefit of self-lit pixels, you’ll get spectacular visuals on one of Samsung’s powerful Odyssey monitors. It’s super-thin, packs in the latest OLED panel tech, and is bound to make the perfect companion to any gaming set-up.

Clocking it at just 3.9mm at its thinnest part, the Odyssey OLED G8 is prioritising convenience with the ultra-thin shell. A sleek metal frame surrounds the body of the monitor, with a built-in height adjustable stand. You’ll find a 34-inch screen on the monitor offering QHD resolution (3,440 x 1,440) and a 21:9 aspect ratio. It also boasts 1800R curvature for a more immersive playing view

Since the monitor uses an OLED display, there’s no backlight involved. It delivers true RGB with high colour accuracy, 100% colour volume, a DCI-99.3% colour gamut, and true blacks. To assist gamers, you’ll find a low 0.1ms latency time on the Odyssey OLED G8, alongside a refresh rate of 175Hz. Plus, there’s the Core Lighting+ lights on the rear of the monitor, which can match colours with on-screen content.

Since the Odyssey OLED G8 is a Samsung monitor, it benefits from the Gaming Hub which allows players to easily discover new games. You’ll also find the usual array of streaming apps for entertainment through the Smart Hub, and the SmartThings app to control smart home tech from the monitor.

If Samsung’s Odyssey OLED G8 has caught your eye, it won’t be long until you can grab one for yourself. After its IFA 2022 unveiling, Samsung will go on to release the monitor in Q4 (so anytime after September). The exact dates will vary by region, but it should be before the year’s end. Currently, we’ve got no details on pricing. But, since the Odyssey Neo G8 starts at £1300, we’d expect a price around £1500 or higher.
