Apple is finally giving AirPods users EQ control and it’s coming soon
AirPods users will benefit from a custom EQ when iOS 27 arrives later this year.
During the WWDC keynote on June 8, Apple announced a new customisation feature for its AirPods audio products that’ll enable listeners to further tailor the sound to individual preferences.
A brief reveal during the keynote showed an custom EQ graph enabling listeners to fine-tune the highs, mids and lows, while also showing the effect on the song’s waveform. Users can still choose to enjoy the Recommended profile, but this adds more options.
“AirPods are designed and engineered by Apple to faithfully represent music, TV shows, movies, and calls. If you prefer a different sound profile, you can customise how AirPods represent any audio played,” Apple explains.
While this isn’t a groundbreaking feature, it does bring the AirPods range in-line with a large majority of headphones that have given users the opportunity to set their own levels.
We haven’t had the opportunity to test the feature yet, so we’re not sure how much of a difference it’ll make to the overall listening experience. Perhaps the public betas coming in July will give users the chance to take it for a spin?
One thing we are seeing today is the new AirPods Settings menu within the iOS 27 developer beta that arrived after the keynote. It offers streamlined access to the feature set, including the volume slider, access to the Listening Modes, as well features like Hearing Health and Live Translation. You’ll also see access to the battery settings, Find My settings, accessibility options, controls and gestures, hearing health and plenty more. You’ll also be able to test the acoustic seal.
