Apple is reportedly “accelerating” work on its next generation of wearables arriving as soon as 2027… and there isn’t a screen in sight.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports the three products include the next-generation AirPods Pro with cameras for contextual awareness, the company’s first ever smart glasses, and the previously reported AI pendant. The products are all going to be “built around the Siri digital assistant” Gurman says, but we’re yet to see the fruits of the rebirth that would make Siri a suitable frontman for such devices.

The major news from the report is that the smart glasses seem close to being finalised. Let’s start with the smart glasses, which Apple has made “significant progress on” in recent months, according to Gurman’s sources. They’ll have a pair of camera lenses – one for taking images and videos and another for the “computer vision” that’ll give the specs environmental context. Visual intelligence for your eye line.

“The goal is for the glasses to function as an all-day AI companion, capable of understanding what a user is seeing and doing in real time,” Gurman adds.

According to the reporter, Apple has finalised an in-house frame design having decided against partnering with existing manufacturers. Apple has also found a way to keep the internal components and the battery inside the frames.

Gurman adds: “Early prototypes of the glasses connect via a cable to a standalone battery pack and an iPhone, but newer versions have the components embedded in the frame. The design uses high-end materials, including acrylic elements intended to give the glasses a premium feel. Apple is already discussing launching the device in additional styles over time.”
