Lenovo Legion Go 2 is getting a SteamOS variant eventually
For those who find Windows awkward, help is coming through the Lenovo Legion Go 2 Steam OS handheld. But it won't release until June.
Lenovo has announced a SteamOS version of the Legion Go 2 handheld gaming machine, which is an expected bonus for those who’d prefer to skip dealings with Windows entirely.
The Legion Go 2 Windows edition has been available since October, but gamers are going to have to wait until June to get their mitts around the Linux-based SteamOS version.
That’s somewhat of a blow to those who’ve been biding their time for the second-generation device. Some of those folks might be consider simply buying a Steam Deck OLED and saving a bit of cash (about half of it), rather than waiting six more months for this model.
The power on offer here though might be worth waiting for, if not paying that much for. The entry level version of the Legion Go 2 costs a considerable $1,119.
That outlay gets you a AMD Ryzen Z2 processor combined with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage boosted by a microSD slot. The top-end version includes the Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor, double the RAM, and double the built-in storage. This is the first time that processor has appeared in a device running SteamOS, making it the most powerful yet.
That variant is yet to be officially priced by Lenovo, but the Windows version was $1,349 in the US. Pricing no-doubt inflated by Trump tariffs.
As expected, the specs remain the same. You’re still getting that massive 8.8-inch OLED display with a 1,920 x 1,200 resolution and a 144Hz variable refresh rate It’s quite heavy at 2.2lbs, partially attributable to the 74Wh battery. Thankfully, the Lenovo Legion Go 2 also includes Nintendo Switch-like detachable controllers and a kick-stand to ease the hand fatigue.
On this day last year, Lenovo announced a Legion Go S with Steam OS built in, but that launched in April. It’s not clear why there’s an additional wait, but given the shortages of key components like RAM, it’s not all that surprising.
