These stylish upgraded smart glasses are vision first, augmented reality second
Even Realities' G2 improves on the original's ambition to provide AR glasses that actually fit into your life
Last year, startup Even Realities debuted the G1, a nifty pair of AR glasses that were designed to be everyday glasses first and foremost, with a hefty sprinkling of tech on top. The company’s team has expertise from tech behemoths like Apple and Samsung, but also from optometry firms, too.
The G1 glasses could translate languages on the fly, navigate you through unfamiliar streets, or jot down your thoughts via voice command.
Now there’s a second version, unsurprisingly called G2. They’re available now, priced at $599/£599/€699 and you can get prescription lenses for them.
I had a preview of them in London recently and can confirm that the streamlined specs are both comfortable to use and have some clever features. including the ability to live transcribe conversations you have with others via a mode called Conversate.
This worked particularly well in my demo, accurately reflecting the conversation I was having about the glasses capabilties. Not only does it record a transcription of the conversation, but it also notes key points and actions on-the-fly. Clever stuff.
The G2 also offers over two days of battery on a single charge, with its charging case providing seven full recharges – a big power advantage over the original version.

Previous features have been retained and improved from the G1. Teleprompt is great for speakers and video presenters, enabling them to see the script in front of their eyes. Translate enables two-way communication across 29 languages (more to come, Even Realities says), Navigate now uses a built-in geomagnetic sensor so directions adapt to you no matter where you turn your head and QuickList enables you to keep on top of your priorities.

Crucially, though, the G2 are different from other smart glasses as they don’t have a camera. Even Realities says that they’re designed to augment the tech you have already rather than replace it with new devices. What’s more, there’s also now an R1 smart ring (£239/€269) to go with it, which boasts health tracking as well as being able to be used as a remote control to navigate around the glasses. If you order both together, you can get the ring half price for a limited time.
“Technology shouldn’t fight for your attention; it should free it,” said Will Wang, Even Realities founder. “With G2 and R1, we’ve created devices that disappear into your daily life, while delivering the most advanced intelligence ever seen in the industry.”
Even Realities says it will open the platform up to developers later this year.
