Bold strikes don’t come bolder than this. Battlefield 3 is out to topple Call of Duty off its perch. Yes, that Call of Duty. Brave or foolish – but it’s certainly tempting to think it will only end in defeat.
A conviction that might be reinforced by Battlefield 3’s single-player mode. It looks wonderful, it sounds fantastic and has some brisk and satisfying combat too. But it’s all a bit staged. Its large levels suggest freedom but the reality is you’re there to act while the game directs.
Not so far from Call of Duty then, but at least Activision makes up for it with spectacularly over-the-top missions that put Battlefield’s more run-of-the-mill efforts to shame.
Battlefield 3, however, isn’t about single player at all – a point underlined by how the single player is relegated to the second disc on the Xbox 360 version.
Instead this is about multiplayer warfare and once you dive into Battlefield 3’s online waters the Call of Duty-beater dreams suddenly seem anything but pie-in-the-sky. The choice is familiar with death matches, objective-based Rush mode and its capture-the-flag variant Conquest, but the execution is something else.
The maps are vast, sprawling theatres of war packed with destructible scenery that offer plenty of room for trying out alternative tactics. These environments also make sure you get an equal look in regardless of whether you pick one of the game’s four solider types or opt to control vehicles that range from tanks to helicopters and jet fighters. All of which adds up to some fierce, dramatic and varied multiplayer fun.
So good in fact that the game’s online co-op missions feel flat by comparison. It might drop the ball at times, but in multiplayer Battlefield 3 is a winner. Call of Duty’s dominance suddenly looks a lot weaker.

Battlefield 3 is my boss favourite, he love watch these series films,but,Personally i think the game is awesome. yes the single missions are a bit lame. but its the multiplayer everyone jumps on. well i did first as did MW3. i think these games are the best piece of digital entertainment. i own at the moment. any way,thanks~ http://www.okawards.com

Battlefield 3 is the game of the year for me personally.
It put computers to their limit testing the Graphics and Stability.
With the high detail in the surroundings to the destruction of all most everything in sight this game is by far one of the most interactive games out.
Ok the single layer is that great but that’s only a part of this MMO game.
This Review is based on PC Experience, other consoles cannot enhance the details as a PC can, making them look similar to other games on the market.

I wholeheartedly agree with Emperor Rosko and will gladly slate rjdjones... BF3 is a multi-player game, with a single player/co-op side game (effectively).
Its like buying Fifa 12 and and saying the Management side of it isn't like Football Manager 2012.
Get Gold, get on it, its what the game was made for... Just waiting to visit Karkand again as its been a while :)

OMG you should not be commenting here, you don't play multiplayer therefore you are not a gamer! You are a 'casual player', battlefield is a gamers game and if you simply buy games these days for their single player campaigns youre gonna be disappointed time after time unless you play something like mass effect or uncharted or a game that has its single player story as its core!! Battlefield 2 didn't even have a proper campaign, these games are made to be an online experience, enjoyed with as many human controlled enemies as possible! If you own an Xbox and spite yourself by remaining a silver account holder then you deserve to be unhappy with the single player campaigns from both battlefield and call of duty!

I've only played campaign and apart from the scene in Paris I found it disappointing.
So many part of the story have been done before in previous COD games (even the method of introducing the levels is ripped off from Bl:ops), the part with you as the "gunner" in the fighter over the airfield was dull (move cursor, press button, repeat) and the ending was an anticlimax.
The multiplayer might be better but I'm not going to waste money on a gold membership to find out.
