Philips launches HMP2000 media streamer
Philips has launched the HMP2000, a media player for HDTVs. The HMP2000 is a clear Roku rival, boasting full HD Netflix and YouTube streaming over Wi-Fi for a mere £50. It even comes with a dedicated Netflix button on the remote for one-press access to the new movie streaming service.
The HMP2000 doesn't forget your existing music and videos either: these can be played using a USB flash drive though Apple aficionados may need to convert their AAC files. The Philips media player also lets you browse the internet on your television and view pictures in a digital gallery. However, unlike Roku, it doesn't offer gaming.
While the Philips HMP2000 may look like a cheap option, don't forget the £5.99 monthly fee: without Netflix membership many of the features, including YouTube, are inaccessible.
