Orange iPhone 3G and 3G S deal announced
There have been rumours for a while now, but this morning it became official that O2 has lost its exclusivity deal to sell the iPhone with news that Orange will also be selling Apple's handset before the year is out.It had previously been suggested that Orange would just be selling the 3G, and that O2 would retain exclusivity on the 3G S. However, Orange has confirmed it will be selling both handsets later this year.Orange came out on top of Ofcom's 3G investigation earlier this year where O2 didn't do so well, so this is good news for those who have avoided the iPhone because of O2's less than reliable service in recent months. No dates, prices or tariff information has been announced, but a pre-registration channel for customers to register their interest has been launched. <http://www.orange.co.uk/iPhone> . Will you be going for the iPhone on Orange? Let us know below, and be sure to check out our full review of both the 3G and 3G S to see which one is for you.

Depends on the contract. 3G probably as speed doesn't really matter and it will be cheaper.

O2 has a very poor coverage of 3G, I can only get a reception if I stick my hand out the window and aim to the sky and still......only 2G. Orange will be better. I think there will be a price war on tariffs, anybody noticed the o2 website is down working on maintenance. The plot thickens, let the games begin!

Finally some competition, O2 can now start giving us reasonable prices and deal otherwise, am running to orange haha, the Iphone deal on o2 was such a reap off, the most expensive tarrif i have ever come across, when i was with 3 i was getting twice the minutes for half the price(On 3-3000mins/£25 on O2-1200mins/45mins)both unlimited internet aswell, i only came to o2 for the Iphone. Terrible

Whilst I have no glaring issues with O2 here in London, it'll be good to see exactly what Orange can offer with regard to tarrifs, data and wi-fi. My iPhone contract is up for renewal in January, so I'll be watching to see how things develop. Unlimited data is essential on an iPhone, because you use so much of it so easily. Orange will have to at least offer the same data options, IMO.

It's good news the iPhone will now be offered on an alternative network. However, you can't go by Ofcom's 3G coverage report and state Orange have better coverage etc. For instance, I was stood in the middle of Southampton with 2 phones - one on Orange and my iPhone on O2. My iPhone had *full* 3G coverage, but the phone on Orange (which was a 3G phone) couldn't get 3G at all. It's the same where I live - there's an O2 mast at the top of the road, but no Orange masts whatsoever. On paper, Orange may have better 3G coverage than O2, but that's only on paper. It is also unfair to mention "O2's less than reliable service" over the last few months; I've said it before and I'll say it again - the problems O2 had could happen to ANY network and in fact it did last week. To Vodafone.

Can only mean more competitive pricing on not only handset but data charges too. Been with orange for years and there service has always been exellent. Hence waiting until they got the iPhone....AT LAST.

Orange and T-Mobile have been rumoured to be on the brink of a merger, which is good news and bad news, good because they will become the largest network provider in the UK, bad because . . . well i don't like T-Mobile too much, although the Orange CEO will apparently be the CEO of the new formed network.
