Next Big Thing – Nokia Humanform phone

Will we be wielding fin-inspired phones with mind-reading ringtones in 2020?

Let me guess – a phone to save the planet?

Wrong. You’ll be glad to know that Nokia’s latest concept phone is all about you. And by you, we mean humans in general. Nokia reckons that the Humanform is the next step in creating an emotional connection to our hardware and we’ve got to admit we’ve wanted a friendly bit of Flubber to talk into for quite some time now.

I don’t see a rectangular sub-5in screen.

That’ll be the flexible, teardrop shape you’re looking at then, won’t it? Nokia wants to use nanotechnology that’ll let you bend both edges of the phone, twist the Humanform right in its middle and stretch the skin when panning around photos or browsers. The whole case will act as a touchscreen too, meaning you’ll be able to click on the sides as you view content on the front of the phone.

So what else does the future hold?

We’re not quite sure about an electro tactile phone that lets us ‘feel’ the image, which sounds a bit too Smell-o-vision for our liking. Nokia has hinted that voice recognition will play a part in its future-gen smartphones too. To see the Humanform concept in action, watch the video below – and then prepare for a long wait.
