Live: Toy Fair 2009

30 Jan 2009

Not stopping to grab our coats or brush our teeth, we ran down to the 2009 Toy Fair at London’s Excel Centre. Pushing small children aside, we found four toys to get us bothering our parents (or bank managers) in 2009.

Meccano are finally releasing Spykee’s younger siblings, Spykee Vox (£140) and Spykee Cell (£160). Vox is controllable by voice commands while cousin Cell can be controlled through your mobile. They’re also both iPod docks with built-in speakers.

LEGO are expanding their create-a-robot Mindstorms range to include a bunch of new sensors including a colour detector. Video below demonstrates a ball-sorting robot that sort of works.

Character have developed one of the fastest robots around. Prime-8 is a mechanoid gorilla with a bad ‘tude, slingshot arms and the ability to roll around on his arms. Check back soon for video footage of him running on a treadmill. Terrifying.

And finally, the surprise hit of the Toy Fair for us Stuffers was Nerf’s Wiimote holder (£13) to accompany their upcoming EA shoot ‘em up and their bad-ass Havok Fire machine gun (£50).

Say hello to our little friend…
