No PlayStation 4 at E3, says Sony

sony no playstation 4 e3 2012

Sony's Kaz Hirai has dashed the hopes of PlayStation fans by revealing that Sony will not be making any PlayStation 4 announcements at this year's E3, at a CES roundtable meeting.

Reports suggested that the PlayStation 3's ten year life cycle would be cut short to compete with the announcement of the Xbox 720 (which is still set for an E3 unveiling if all goes well), but it would appear that Sony is sticking to its guns for the time being.

Time will tell what effect a gap of a year or more between the Xbox 720 and PS4 releases will have on the PlayStation 4's sales, but it could be bad news for Sony, given that the Xbox brand is now firmly established.

Bring on E3 we say, where we expecting to see a whole host of gaming delights and announcements.

If PS4 is cloud based, what is stopping Sony from making the PS3 into a PS4? The PS3 can stream video, has controllers etc... What more does it need?

Perhaps we all have a PS4 but we just don't know it!

That's a very interesting point to consider. It's certainly more than capable hardware-wise to receive video and audio input from the cloud.

The only trouble I see with that is that Sony will be alienating people without sufficient broadband speeds, not to mention the stigma that will be associated with the apparent 'long-in-the-tooth' PS3 against whatever shiny new-look Xbox Microsoft is getting ready to unveil...

    Image is everything these days!

Sony are walking a very fine line in my opinion, especially after the security and data protection issues of 2011. They then gave some meagre offerings as a sorry for losing personal and confidential information and the Playstation Network being down for a month. Now Playstation honestly believe that their standing in the gaming industry is so strong that they dont even have to compete with Xbox/Microsoft!!

Alarm bells are ringing Kaz Hirai, from a consumer perspective you need to at least give your dedicated followers something to 'chew the fat' on, I really cant see Vita being that groundbreaking that it is going to overshadow the imminent arrival of the Xbox 720.

I am not an Xbox or Playstation fanboy as I own both and play both, I just like to see some valid competition in the multi-billion pound industry!!
