Skype launches on Windows Phone

Skype for Windows Phone

It's been in beta on Windows Phone since February, but now Microsoft-owned VoIP service Skype has finally been officially released on the Windows Phone Marketplace.

It serves up the usual Skype features – calling, video chat and instant messaging, plus cheap-rate calls using Skype Credit – all wrapped up in the Windows Phone Metro interface.

Still, we can't help wondering if the different branches of Microsoft are actually talking to each other. How else to explain the fact that only one Nokia Windows Phone – the Lumia 900 – actually features the front-facing camera needed for making Skype video calls? If Microsoft's official Windows Phone hardware partner isn't supporting its own VoIP service, it's facing an uphill struggle.
