Rumour – AirPlay Direct coming, doesn’t require Wi-Fi

According to “sources familiar with the iPhone-maker’s plans”, Apple will soon introduce a new version of AirPlay that doesn’t require access to a Wi-Fi network, instead streaming audio direct from your iOS device to a set of compatible speakers.
Called AirPlay Direct (although this may be a working title) the new system apparently offers better functionality than the Bluetooth link already available on many products.
AirPlay Direct may be announced as soon as September 12th, when Apple is set to unveil the iPhone 5. Stay tuned for more info then.

Airplay is just a copy of Bluetooth. I'm surprised there isn't a Billion dollar lawsuit taken out. There would be if it was the other way around.

So what you are saying is, Apple have only just thought about putting this technology in their new phone which is out next year!! I really do feel sorry for Apple users. The ability to set up a peer to peer WiFi network (sorry author of article but it's still a WiFi Network even though there is no Router involved) has been around for years. Eye-Fi have been doing this since 2005 for cameras, Samsung have been doing it with Direct Play on Galaxy phones for well over a year.
The real story here is what took Apple so long? Why are they only just giving their users technology that has been around for years, technology that is already in competitors phones?
