You're a wizard, Pikachu: Niantic making a Harry Potter game

If you thought the Pokemon Go madness was bad, this just might top it

After a lot of rumours, it's confirmed: Niantic Labs is making a Harry Potter game.

Wizards Unite

The name of the new app? Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. No release date as yet but in Niantic's announcement, it promised that players "will learn spells, explore their real-world neighborhoods and cities to discover and fight legendary beasts and team up with others to take down powerful enemies".

Yes, basically it's Pokemon Go, with wands.

The game will be a collaboration with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and WB Games San Francisco's development team, and Niantic says that it will "leverage the full stack" of the Niantic Platform.

Let's just hope Niantic sorts out its server woes before the launch. Rollout-wise, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will likely hit the US first and soon, Pokemon Go and Harry Potter players might be bumping into each other. Crossovers please, Niantic?
