You'll have to wait until next year for Samsung Android Oreo updates

Beta updates will still be available before the end of the year, though

If you've been hoping for Android Oreo updates for your new Samsung phone, the bad news is that they won't come until next year. Officially, that is.

Beta to the rescue

While other phone manufacturers are planning to update models that support the Android Oreo update by end-year, Samsung has said it will only roll out official updates next year.

There's still some good news though: there will be beta updates available by the end of the year. As of press time, the phones that will get updates are the following models:

  • Galaxy S8
  • Galaxy S8 Plus
  • Galaxy Note8
  • Galaxy S7
  • Galaxy S7 Edge
  • Galaxy S7 Active
  • Galaxy A7 (2017)
  • Galaxy A5 (2017)
  • Galaxy A3 (2017)
  • Galaxy J7 (2017)
  • Galaxy J5 (2017)
  • Galaxy Note FE
  • Galaxy C9/C7 Pro
  • Galaxy J7 Prime (On Nxt)
  • Galaxy Tab S3

The delay is likely due to the amount of customisation done on Samsung UIs, thus the need to tweak Android Oreo as well. Still, better a delayed update than no update at all, right?

Here's our short guide to what to look forward to in Android Oreo.
