Tomorrow is 8 July and if you’ve marked the date on your calendars to purchase the Xiaomi Redmi Note, you might be facing a substantial predicament, because that’s when the smaller Redmi 1S is also going on sale.

And if you've been holding out for the device, good luck deciding between that and the cheap phablet.

The Chinese electronics company recently promised us that its Redmi 1S will be available sometime in June, but we presume a hiccup was what led to its availability being pushed back to July. It's a little later than expected, but it’s better late than never.

According to its Facebook site, Xiaomi’s only got a certain number of Redmi 1S sets  – 5000 to be exact – that will go on sale in Singapore. Considering it’s going out at the same time as the Redmi Note phablet (also 5000 units to be sold), the chances of you getting your hands on a Xiaomi smartphone is significantly higher than usual.

Decisions, decisions..

But you’ve got to remember that these units have been getting snapped up pretty quickly, usually wiped out within minutes after the sale commenced at 12 noon for the previous batches. As for its pricing, the Redmi 1S will sit at S$169 – the same price as its Redmi predecessor and slightly cheaper than its Redmi Note sibling, which will cost you S$199.

If you’re unfamiliar with the devices, both sets have stark variations in terms of specs. The Redmi 1S will arrive in dark grey with a Snapdragon 400 quad-core 1.6Ghz CPU and an upgraded flash memory of 8GB (the Redmi only came with 4GB of internal storage), while the Redmi Note will come in a white back cover with a 5.5in IPS display, octa-core 1.7Ghz CPU, 2GB RAM, 8GB flash, and a 13MP rear camera.

Now, you’ve got less than 24 hours to ponder between both units. If you still can’t make your mind up even after checking up our reviews of the units, you just might end up basing your decision on a coin toss.
