UPDATED 05/02/15: It's official - the Xiaomi Mi Pad will be available from February 10, priced at S$299. Following the Xiaomi tradition, flash sales have been scheduled to start at 12pm on that date and if you're after one, you need to act fast in purchasing it online.
We saw the Xiaomi Mi Pad being unveiled at the company’s CNCC event in Beijing sometime in May last year (that’s way too long ago if you ask us), and not a word of its local release was mentioned until it got spotted on IDA’s Equipment Search List a few weeks back.
The device’s model name – A0101, along with the description “tablet PC with 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac WLAN + BT” was featured on the IDA website, so this official announcement shouldn't come as a surprise.
If you need a quick refresh of the Mi Pad’s specs, it’s basically a 7.9in display unit with a screen resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels, is powered by NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor, and contains 2GB of RAM. It also comes with 16GB and 64GB storage options, which can be expanded via microSD.
The device went on sale in July 2014 in China, with prices starting from 1499 yuan (around S$322). In less than four minutes of going on sale, 50,000 units were snapped up there. So if the demand for the Mi Pad is just the same in Singapore and Malaysia, prepare yourselves for a similar result when it’s released.
