Xiaomi's followup to its popular Mi Note might be coming soon, judging from the various picture and specs floating around about the Mi Note 2.
UPDATE 18/10/2016: Xiaomi has uploaded a teaser photo that confirms the date of the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 launch: 25 October. The teaser's tags let slip that the Mi Note 2 will have a curved screen so that's something to look forward to. The company has also hired one of Hong Kong's biggest stars, actor Tony Leung, as a celebrity spokesperson for the launch.
Rumours are that the phone might cost up to 4000 yuan (S$820), a big departure from the company's usual pricing. Will the phone's feature justify the price? We'll have to wait and see.
USB Type-C, 6GB of RAM?
It'll be running a fairly solid processor in the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, coupled with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. There'll also be a screen that could either be 5.5in or 5.7in, like a QHD AMOLED display. Rumours are also that the display might ape Samsung's dual curve edge.
As for the fingerprint scanner, it'll likely be embedded in the home button and the battery will be 3600mAh with support for Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0. As for variants, there could likely be 32GB and 128GB models, with the former having 4GB of RAM to make it more affordable.
Other interesting features: a USB Type-C port and what looks like a dual camera configuration on the back of the phone. As for pricing, the phone could be retailing at prices starting from RMB2499 (S$510) with a rumoured launched date of 5 Sept.
With the heated competition in the smartphone market, especially in the lower-priced segment, we'll have to see if the Mi Note 2 will make enough headway.
UPDATE: Gizmo China reported analyst Pan Jiutang saying that the phone will launch by end of October. The launch is pretty much confirmed as media invites have started going out for a Xiaomi event around that time.
Pan said the phone will likely come in more colour choices than the recently-launched Mi 5s and 5s Plus. As for pricing, the phone is estimated to be priced at RMB2662 (S$540).
