Xbox Play Anywhere coming 13 September: here’s what you need to know

Play games across Windows 10 and Xbox One from this autumn

Xbox Play Anywhere, first announced at E3 2016, now has an official release date: 13 September.

Yes, from this autumn owners of an Xbox One and Windows 10 PC will be able to play selected games on both platforms, no matter which system they purchased it on.

Play Anywhere includes a single cloud-stored save file, so your progress and achievements are retained even if you swap between machines, and any DLC you purchase will be playable on both systems.

The service’s biggest restriction is that it’ll only work with download editions of games – not physical disc copies. You’ll also need to download the Windows 10 Anniversary Update (due on 2 August) and the Xbox One summer update (date TBC).

Games that support the service will be identified in online stores with a Play Anywhere icon. Currently, the list of supported titles is as follows:
