Think the Xiaomi Redmi 2 is the only device the Chinese mobile manufacturer has in store for you this month? Think again. But this time, it’s not a rumour; Xiaomi has openly declared on its Twitter page that it will be unveiling its next flagship device on January 15.
Apparently, word’s out on the street that the launch event will be for a new super-thin flagship phone and the company has confirmed this by releasing a teaser image that focuses on exactly how thin this device will be.
A Xiaomi representative has posted on the MIUI website, touting Mi fans, that the unit will be “as thin as a cicada’s wings”.
We doubt that the device will actually be that thin – we’re guessing it’s just an over-exaggeration of the real deal, but it will be a unit that boasts a slim frame as one of its key features. It’s also evident from the positioning of a hand on the teaser image that the device will be sleek.
We’re placing our bets on either the Xiaomi Mi5, which has been speculated to be bezel-free, or the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2, which has supposedly been pictured on the production line looking wafer thin. Then again, we could be totally off the charts and the company could reveal something else altogether.
Since the due date isn’t too far away, we’re hoping Xiaomi releases more teasers in the coming days for a closer indication as to what the device could be. But for now, all we can do is mark our calendars and wait with bated breath.
