Android 5.0 Lollipop is official. And you can hear Android makers shouting "Me first!" at Google to update their gadgets with the latest version.
If you’re an owner of a Sony Xperia Z device, rejoice. The Japanese multi-national conglomerate has announced that its Xperia Z range will receive the update.
The Sony Z Ultra Google Play edition will be the first to get the update while the rest will get a taste of Lollipop in early 2015, starting with “the core Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2 series”. We’re presuming this means the Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact, Z3 Tablet Compact, and Xperia Z2 get it first, but we can’t say for sure.
Other mobile makers' plans
As for Motorola, we already know that the Nexus 6 will be the first to come out of the box with the update. As for the rest of its battalion, the first and second generation Moto X, first and second generation Moto G, Moto G with 4G LTE, Moto E, Droid Ultra, Droid Mini, and Droid Maxx will get the boost.
HTC took to Twitter to respond to its plans about Android 5.0 Lollipop. The HTC Nexus 9 will be the first tablet powered by the new operating system and you can expect the One (M7) and One (M8) to get the update in the next 90 days.
The HTC One mini and One mini 2 will also get it but its schedule, just like the remainder of the devices on the list above, is yet to be announced. We expect it to come sometime later in 2015, so you’ll need to do some waiting until then.
Oddly, South Korean companies Samsung and LG are quiet about the Android 5.0 update. Our money's on the Samsung Galaxy S5 and LG G3.
