Thermal imaging camera brings night and heat vision powers to your Android smartphone

Embrace the power of snake vision with this Android supercam

Opgal Optronic Industries is a company with a name straight out of a videogame, and it’s just announced the world’s first thermal imaging camera for Android, the Therm-App.

Compatible with most Android devices with Jelly Bean 4.1 or above, the Therm-App is a lens attachments transforms your humble Android smartphone into an infrared heat and night vision camera.

Combined with a special app, users can use their phones to see in the dark or view heat signatures of organic and inorganic objects.

Snakes have been using this skill to great effect for quite a while now, preying on hapless mice, shrews and (in Australia’s case, crocodiles).

Hunting vermin aside, the Therm-App is aimed at security, defence and industrial clients and offers a 348 x 288 resolution along with interchangeable lens for both wide and long range views.

The Therm-App will only work with USB OTG devices as it needs to draw power from the smartphone itself, and it’s currently only available to Opgal Optronic’s existing customers, though you can request more information via the Therm-App website.
