You have two SIMs on two mobile phones, maybe because you use one for work and one for play. And you essentially would like both the numbers to run simultaneously on just one device.
It seems like a far fetched dream but it’s now possible because StarHub’s launched a new 2-in-1 LINE app that lets its post-paid customers easily get and manage an additional mobile number on their smartphones. And according to StarHub, this is the first of such a service within the Southeast Asian region.
“We are happy to empower prosumers who increasingly want to maintain work-life integration by managing essential and casual communications across different numbers without carrying two SIMs or phones wherever they go,” StarHub mobility senior vice-president, Chan Kin Hung, said.
All you have to do is download the app onto your mobile device from the Apple App Store or Google Play, log in with your Hub iD and pick out your secondary number. You also won’t have to replace your current SIM or phone for it to work.
You’ll then be able to make calls or SMS using the secondary number (people will be able to distinguish it from the number that gets displayed on their caller IDs) while the primary line will be utilised for data in addition to incoming texts and SMS.
But the use of the app isn’t just limited to that – you’ll be able to control a suite of other 2-in-1 LINE features, such as a complete call filtering/blocking option, voicemail inbox with personalised greetings or even a standalone mobile address book and call/text log.
The 2-in-1 LINE service will cost you S$5.35 a month, but as a launch promotion, you will be entitled to three months complimentary access to the service if you sigh-up before 31 December 2014. StarHub’s also throwing into the mix a promotion that gives you unlimited local SMS over 2-in-1 LINE till 31 December 2014.
And if you're wondering about the future of StarHub's MultiSIM service, a spokesperson for the telco said it will co-exist alongside this new service, as they both "serve different customer needs".
