Sony Xperia M4 Aqua offers a waterproof body, two-day battery life and a 13MP camera for €300

This mid-ranger wants to tick as many boxes as it can

If there is a secret Xperia Z4 smartphone sneaking around MWC, it’s probably in the pocket of a Sony Mobile exec.

We’re not one to sneak around peeking into people’s clothing, so we’re trying to distract ourselves with Sony’s latest smartphone announcement – the mid-range Xperia M4 Aqua.

Sporting a 5.2in 720p screen, the Aqua features the same design DNA as Sony’s other flagship Xperia devices, and shares the same waterproof powers as them too, including an all-new microUSB port that doesn’t need to be plugged up to fend of water damage.

A 5MP front-facing selfie cam and a 13MP rear offering for less pit-orientated shots is also on the cards, as is an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor and 2GB of RAM.

Sony reckons the M4 Aqua will last around 2 days, which is a pretty decent chunk of time by today’s smartphone standards, though we’ll have to wait to see how it holds up in our final review.

There’s no official UK price for the time being (the closest we can get is an official price of €300), and there’s nothing more concrete than a Spring release date.
