All hail Sony’s newest flagship shooter - the A9.
First things first, it’s fast. You get blackout-free continuous shooting at up to 20fps so your subject is always in view and a maximum shutter speed of 1/32,000 seconds. It’s all thanks to its 24.2MP 35mm full-frame stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor. It’s not just about the speed it shoots at, that lightning quickness also translates to its processing prowess. How fast? It's 20x faster than previous Sony full-frame cameras.
A demo of photographing kiddie gymnasts turned out sharp shots of peak action and facial expressions of determination in clear focus. That's all thanks to the focusing system with 693 phase detection AF points that covers up to 93% of the frame, it will be hard to turn out a blurry shot. AF/AE is calculated up to 60 times per second so your subject stays in focus no matter how erratic its motion can get, perfect for a room full of balls bouncing off the walls if you will. Don't worry about shaky hands, there's a 5-axis stabiisation system that will give you a shutter speed advantage of 5.0 steps and focus even in challenging light conditions - like shooting the Sundown Marathon.
Pair that power with an brand new battery and the A9 becomes quite the beast. It's 2.2x the capacity of previous Sony full-frame cameras and you'll definitely feel the difference.
The A9 is available for S$6299 (body only) at all Sony stores and select dealers. Till 18 June, there’s a G-Master lens bundle with every purchase of the A9. If you want to get the A9 with SEL70200GM lens, the promotional price is S$9898, instead of the usual S$10,198.
