Thankfully, Singaporeans haven’t had to wait too long for the Razer Phone. Just a week after its global launch in the US, gaming hardware company Razer has made its first smartphone available in Singapore.
You can preorder yours at the Sitex 2017 consumer electronics fair at Expo, thanks to an exclusive partnership with Singtel (which also brought us the Google Pixel 2 XL). Bit of a #SingaporePride moment, because this is the first country in Asia to get the phone.
And it’s a lot of phone. Razer calls it the “ultimate in mobile entertainment”, so it’s not just about games. (Though generally, what’s good for gaming is good for just about everything else you need.)
Some quick opinions: the 120Hz UltraMotion Screen is really the stand-out feature here. Scrolling through Instagram and the app drawer is a real treat thanks to the unprecedented fluidity of the screen. It’s responsive on a whole new level, perfect not just for gaming, but daily use, not to mention watching videos. 8GB RAM on a mobile device is also ridiculous, ensuring buttery smooth performance and unstoppable multitasking. (For a more extensive review, read our hands-on here.)
While it is a shame that the audio jack is missing, the two front-facing speakers are definitely among the best you'll find on a phone. You have to try it to believe it, but load up the Dolby Atmos app and you’re sure to be in for a surprise. For gamers, it’s every bit the “unfair advantage”, as Singtel's Consumer Singapore CEO Yuen Kuan Moon put it at the launch.
The Razer Phone is available for preorder now exclusively at Sitex 2017, after which you can only purchase at Singtel once island-wide sales commence at a later date. Prices vary depending on your contract - on a Combo 3 plan, for example, it's S$298. Alternatively, you can purchase it a la carte for S$1068 on Razer’s Singapore online store from 1 December.
